Q&A

Questions answered

I received a few questions that might be of interest to you guys, so I've decided to start a little Q&A section here or rater a "frequently asked questions" section. You can ask questions via the comment section at the bottom, via my contact data, or the tools of other platforms like Deviantart or Instagram.

"When will the printed version come out?" (UPDATED)

I cannot say at this moment. Once the first issue is finished I want to get it printed in typical comic format and give out for free so readers will only have to pay shipment and packaging to their country. Another idea is to launch a kickstarter for more fancy printing options and bundles.

"Why are there no updates/new pages?" (UPDATED)

I'm using my free time for the comic. If I don't upload for a long while it simply means I'm too busy and don't have much free time left for the comic. Remember that I don't get paid for this and have both an actual full-time job and a private life to juggle.

"Will there be a queer representation in the comic?"

Yes. Some of the new characters are homo- or bisexual and this will be thematized one way or another over the course of the comics and accompanying short novels. However it's not going to be a major focus, simply because I won't have much "time" to touch on any type of love relationships beside the main story. It also did cross my mind to pair Irma with Mariko from the original comics who lost her boyfriend rather tragically. I still think they make a cute couple but (at least for now) I decided against this option.

"Will the comic be available in Italian?"

Maybe?? For the time being English is the language I'm focusing on. Once the first issue is complete I might get some fans and language prone helpers together to translate it into other languages but that's a big maybe. Would be cool though.

"How close are you staying to the original comics?" (UPDATED)

Very close. Everything that happened in the original, happened in this one, too. (e.g. people died, couples broke up) That doesn't mean I can't add new content, revoke a decision etc.

"Will Elyon and Orube appear?"

Yes, they are planned to make an appearance but how and when I won't say yet.

"How much do you have planned for this project?" (UPDATED)
A lot, actually. I planned a full main story with several new places and characters, plus some old ones, of cause. But since I work alone on this in my free time it will be difficult or just take a lot of time to reach all of them. I plan on involving the community with some decision making as well, show you guys what I have in mind or what optional content I see apart from the main story and then you can vote which ones you'd like to see and which ones will be left out.

"Is the new guardian team ALITY appearing on the next page(12)?!"

No. They'll appear once W.i.t.c.h. are done with their first mission as Sovereigns which... should be towards the end of the current comic issue unless I change something along the way. So it's going to be a while but I wanted to share them with you guys before that.

"How long did it take you to make the first comic page?"

For the very first comic page it's hard to say. I started on it in 2017, then paused and got back to it in 2018. Sometimes I worked on it for an hour, other times a whole day. But to give a rough estimation: About 8-10 days from idea to finished page. Today I'm a lot faster than that! But yeah. The first one was tough haha!

"How long does it take you now to finish a comic page?"

I'm a lot faster now but it depends on the content. Pages with complex poses or many small panels or detailed backgrounds take longer than others. I've become faster with picking the right colours and concepting the page at the start so I safe time there. I still need a few rounds of edits though. I'd say it takes me around 5 full days.

"Are Hay Lin and Eric, Irma and Joel together again in your comic?"

Hay Lin and Eric: No. The original comic wrote Eric out of the story by letting him move. While Hay Lin visited him once, and they were seen writing each other letters or emails, at some point Hay Lin moved on and got together with Wesley which to me means that she is no longer into Eric. Irma and Joel are a different story, I'm more open on that point. The two were always a bit on and off with a relationship, sometimes flirting, then dating, other times just friends. They still get along really well and he's still in Heatherfield so that would be an option. To be honest though I haven't decided yet who will be Irma's boyfriend. I might make a vote about it at some point and ask the community.

"What program and brushes do you use?" (UPDATED)

I used to work a lot with Photoshop (cover art and entire prologue) but moved over to Clip Art Studio last year. It offers a lot more tools for comic creation and creating high resolution art feels more natural with it than it did with Photoshop. As for the brushes: I use standard tools. The g-pen for outlines and shading. I apply basic colours with the fill tool or the g-pen again, and I use opaque water colour brush for backgrounds or soft high- or low-lights.
